Winter Eyewear Tales

Merry Christmas! Can you believe it’s that time of year already, where Santa will be dusting off his sleigh and delivering fabulous festive gifts?

Like always, the run-up to Christmas has been a busy period for The Wright Eyewear Company, with overseas trips, anniversary celebrations, local events to attend – and of course, connecting with so many lovely customers!

So grab yourself a hot chai latte or glass of mulled wine, cosy up on the sofa and read on to find out all about our latest goings on.

Chris-mas catch-up

This November marked five years since our Practice Owner Kelly took over the company, and as part of the celebrations, she was taken out for dinner by Chris Jenkins – the former Practice Owner.

Chris is relishing retirement and she’s keeping busy by pursuing her long-time passion, flower arranging. In fact, she was invited to dress the High Altar at Westminster for a service to celebrate its 750th anniversary. The event was attended by the Queen and we’re sure Her Majesty was impressed by Chris’ gorgeous handiwork.

Chris remains an eyewear fanatic, having recently added some beautiful Face a Face frames and sunglasses to her ever-growing collection of glam glasses.

It was super fun to catch-up with Chris and we hope she’ll be back for another visit very soon.

New eyewear

In our previous blog, we mentioned our visit to Silmo – a prestigious optical trade show in Paris.

With near to 1000 exhibits, it was quite the spectacle and our terrific trio (Kelly, Vicky and Mandy) had a whale of a time trying on frames of all sorts of shapes, sizes and materials – there were also some very ‘out there’ products for those with a bold sense of style.

One the highlights of their visit was the Lafont stand, where they were treated to a detailed demonstration by a frame maker who cut, filed and edged a piece of acetate, before applying an exquisite gold highlight to the frame– a pleasure and a privilege to see a master at work.

Whilst at the stand, the girls got down to business and looked through the wonderful Lafont eyewear collection. They were instantly impressed by the simplicity and elegance of the specs, so took quite a while to choose the frames to bring back to the UK for your perusal.

Lafont have a strong history in eyewear, having produced high-quality frames for over 90 years. The Wright Eyewear company will be the first practice in the South-East to stock their glasses, so if you appreciate a little exclusive elegance and would like to add pair of these time-tested frames to your collection, please call us to arrange a viewing!

Catwalk

A trip to Paris wasn’t enough high flying for us this year– we also attended a classy charity fashion show in aid of the Mayor of Bexley’s Charity Umbrella Appeal.

The show was hosted by our friends and fellow Bexley business award winners, Kimmicass, a local ladieswear retailer, and it was quite the night.

With music from Tony Toole, a raffle with the top prize of a trip to Ireland and a fantastic catwalk display of models showcasing stylish Kimmicass clothing and fabulous frames from The Wright Eyewear company, it’s no wonder the event was a sell-out.

And the good news is there are plans for another event during the summer. So if you’d like to take part in a fun-filled evening in support of a worthy local cause, keep your eyes peeled for ticket details and a sneak peek preview in our Spring blog.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our whirlwind trip through 2019, and we look forward to filling you in on more practice activities next year.

Until then, we hope you and yours have an awesome Christmas and we’re sure that 2020 will bring more amazing adventures in eyewear for us all!
